Alabama Secretary of State Wes Allen

This morning we had the pleasure of meeting with Mr. Wes Allen, Alabama Secretary of State. Mayor Allred and Mr. Allen talked for about an hour over several subjects. They ended their conversation with a discussion about our flooding issue. Mayor Allred gave him the history of the problem and progress being made with instruction on where to look as he headed to Sulligent.

Wallace McAdory and David Kemp

Another successful meeting for Mayor Allred on this beautiful Monday. Mr. Wallace McAdory and Mr. David Kemp with the Alabama Department of Transportation came by this afternoon. After talking for a while, Mayor Allred took them to see the flooding issue. They are very concerned about the bridge and the flooding. They told Mayor Allred they were going to go back to their office and see what they can do to help relieve some of the blockage until the Corps of Engineers can get the bigger work done. They also said they would make contact with the Corps of Engineers about the issue in hopes of speeding things up a bit.

ABC 33/40 Lux Video

Here is the link to the video that aired last night on ABC 33/40 regarding the flooding issue. Also, regarding a previous post stating appropriations were hopeful for FY2026. This is what I have found out about that process. The fiscal year for the Corps of Engineers for 2026 begins on October 1, 2025. Any appropriation requests that need to be submitted for FY2026 are to be submitted by February 2025. So, yes, it seems forever away, but in reality it starts sooner.
Again, remember, the Lux did not get this way overnight and will not be fixed overnight. This is more progress for this issue than has ever been made. Our thanks to all who have helped push this through. Special thanks to Mike Raita with Senator Tommy Tuberville's office who has been key to getting other legislators involved as well as the Corps of Engineers.
